During the Valiant Shield 24 exercise IBCS demonstrated its command-and-control prowess

The United States Army has created a new era of defense with the Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS), the Army’s program of record for integrated air and missile defense modernization. This ready-now system participated in the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command’s (INDOPACOM) Valiant Shield exercise in a variety of ways to showcase its game-changing integrated battle management capabilities for joint U.S. Forces.

A large focus of the exercise for U.S. forces and Northrop Grumman was the Guam Defense System architecture. IBCS demonstrated its capability to unify data from sensors and effectors across services to facilitate engagement intercepts, ensuring an efficient use of munitions in a multi-layered defense strategy.

“Northrop Grumman’s participation in Valiant Shield enabled us to share our approach to battle management and command and control by integrating cutting-edge technology across the battlespace,” said Kenn Todorov, vice president and general manager, global battle management and readiness, Northrop Grumman. “Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS) is an innovative, ready-now system revolutionizing integrated air and missile defense around the globe.”

Throughout the exercise, IBCS served as an enabling node seamlessly connecting the U.S. Army, Air Force, and Missile Defense Agency (MDA) command-and-control systems. This further demonstrated IBCS’ flexible networking ability to enable multi-domain command and control over vast distances.

In addition to demonstrating IBCS as part of the Guam Defense System, Northrop Grumman, in collaboration with industry partners, showcased the feasibility of incorporating new capabilities into the IBCS open architecture framework. The successful prototype development and integration of the U.S. Navy’s Standard Missile 6 weapon system into IBCS happened within just a few months. The experiment demonstrated data flow from detection to engagement using a simulated launch. This highlighted the flexibility of the U.S. Army’s architecture to enable integration of existing joint-force capabilities, substantiating why IBCS is the right choice for the future of integrated air and missile defense.

The Valiant Shield exercise provided an opportunity to showcase how IBCS’ air and missile defense capabilities are an integral component for the Guam Defense System. IBCS’ game-changing battle management system, and its adaptability in joint force operations reinforced why it is the U.S. Army’s cornerstone for integrated air and missile defense. Through innovation and excellence, Northrop Grumman’s IBCS is ready for the threats of today and tomorrow across the multi-domain battlespace.
